Hodge-Podge

Good Morning World!
It is Mary here and I am super sorry I haven't posted in awhile. :) It has been a crazy year and my senior year is almost over! It is crazy to say that the time has flown by very quickly.

I stayed up till midnight last night submitting a scholarship application. Let's just say, that I always do stuff last minute and then get totally stressed out. It isn't good for my health. I pray that I will win one of the awards. :)

So I would like to talk about different topics in this blog post today.  I haven't had a chance to read many books this school year due to all the reading I have to do for my Literature class. But the one book that I have enjoyed from this class is called Till We have Faces by none other than C.S. Lewis! It is a book about Cupid, Psyche, and Psyche's sisters, told by the perspective of Orual, the oldest sister.  It is one of Lewis better adult books. :) :P Jk. It is a pretty book overall. I am currently trying to get through a book that is all about the Tudors, Lancasters, and Yorks of England. Due to school, I cannot get through it sadly.

Over the past few months, my family and I have been watching some very good movies.  For Christmas, my parents gave to my sister and me a box of movies. The Princess Bride, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, Behind Enemy Lines, are some of the movies we received.

If you haven't seen Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, you need to do so. It is such an amazing movie.  This movie is based on a book series where children are born with pecularities like some can pick up boulders, a boy has bees in his mouth, a girl can float and has to wear iron shoes constantly, and there is an invisible boy. Highly recommend! :)

Another movie that my family and I watched over the break is Valkryie. It is all about one of the main plots to kill Hilter. Lots of action and history.  If you are a Tom Cruise fan, you'll like this movie.

And to end this blog post, I want to point out that today is the first day of Lent. What are you going to do for Lent? Some things that I am going to do is listen to podcasts by Catholic speakers, read the Morning Office every day, and be more diligent in school. :)
Comment and tell me what you are going to do! :)

St. Mother Theodore Guerin, pray for us!

College Planning

Yes, those dreaded words are this post's title. I am so sorry I had to mention them. :P I know that most of the people reading this blog are high school students. Have you been dreaming about your dream college? Have you been thinking about how you're going to pay for it? I know I have.  This entire summer I have been working with a woman who is helping me plan and pay for college. I have been writing essays that I can use for scholarships.  Speaking of scholarships......I have some websites to share with you. You will be surprised with all the different types of scholarships that are out there! They are so many! Just start applying and maybe you will actually win some money! My goal is to get through college for free.

I am praying for all you rising seniors with filling out all those applications and those who are going to in the next 2-3 years! I know it feels hard and is kind of scary, but you will feel better. :)

Real Life Superheros

Greetings and Salutations!
I have been thinking a lot and watching some movies and shows about real life heros. Yes, I feel like there should be a Captain America or Iron Man but we have our own superheros. Soldiers, policemen, firemen, but especially our dads. :) I want you to stop and think about it for a second. They are out there fighting for our freedom and to keep us safe. Next time you see a soldier whether it be in the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, or Coast Guard, or a policemen or firemen, or your dad, I want you to say thank you. :) They chose a path to keep the world safe.

Sorry for being short.

What a Girl Is...........

What is a girl?

Definition:
1) a female child
2) A young or relatively young woman

It is hard to be a girl sometimes. In today's society we are told to dress a certain way or act a certain way.  We aren't given the dignity that is due us, but we should already have some dignity in us.  Everyone is made in the image and likeness of God.  We are made in a very special way and can do many wonderful things that boys cannot do. ;) If you are feeling down and don't feel confident about yourself, just stop and take a breath, look around and realize that God made you for who you are. Don't let others judge you or tell you what to do. Be who you are suppose to be and give all glory to God.

I found a song that you might enjoy. It might be cheesy but it reminds me of who and what I am. :)

Hope you enjoy this post.

Movie Recommendations!

Looking for a good movie to watch with you friends, family, girlfriend, etc.....? Well I have some good ones for yah!

I tend to watch most of my movies with my family.

So I shall start out with some good family-friendly movies.
The first movie on my list is The Bridge of Spies.  This movie is about the Cold War during the 1940s and 1950s between the Russians and Americans.  A little violent but an overall excellent movie.  There are some very good quotes and a lesson to learn which is when faced with a major obstacle, you shouldn't worry. :)

Next movie is Woodlawn. This movie is based on a true story of a boy in the early 1970s.  This boy is motivated to win a Championship for this small school football team. Its very touching and how is dedicated to his team and coach.  A must see.

Next movie is a good movie to watch with your sister(s) or girlfriends. :) Jem and the Holograms is about a girl who lives with her aunt, sister, and two foster girls.  she journeys with her sisters and finds out all about herself. The soundtrack is pretty awesome. I started crying during it. :)

And then the last movie is Risen. I. L.O.V.E. that movie. xD The guy who plays the main character is pretty good looking...xD This movie is very spiritual which is pretty awesome during this secular society.  It is all about finding Christ's body. :)

Well I hope you enjoy this post! Please subscribe! :)

As We Approach Easter…

Hey guys!

With Holy Week starting tomorrow, Easter is coming faster than you know it! So I thought I'd write a little something about reflecting on Holy Week, as well as a few outfit ideas that would be cute for Easter Mass.

This is one of my favorite quotes by Mother Teresa. Her love and devotion for God is so inspiring. I think we should try and take this quote to heart in this last week of Lent. As you have probably heard at Mass on Sunday, Lent is about strengthening your relationship with God. So what better way to do that than "listen to Jesus' thirst....repent and believe"? As Mother Teresa says, "he wants only your love, wants only the chance to love you." Prayer, fasting, and alms giving are three great ways to start.

~~~
Dressing up for Easter Mass is so much fun! I love looking my best and dressing respectfully to see Jesus.
Easter colors are mainly pastels, so try to wear some to Mass.
Here are a few appropriate outfits:
add a cardigan if you'd like!
For if you have an edgier side, like me ;)
These colors together are just...<3
A blazer/cardigan with a belt really ties a dress together! (Pun intended hehe)
If it's a bit chilly, a light-knit sweater paired with a flowy skirt creates a nice contrast of textures.
 I know most of these outfits have heels, but flats would look perfectly okay too :)
No matter what you wear, always keep in mind:
I hope you all enjoyed my post, and thanks for reading! Have a blessed rest of Lent and a happy Easter!!
January 31st????
Like for reals people?!?!? How can it be January 31st already!?!?!?! Wasn't it just New Year's Eve like yesterday?! xD My how the time has flown by fast! It has been a great month since I last posted. xD Christmas with my family, spending New Year's alone and babysitting, starting second semester of junior year, getting ready for the March for Life, and now sitting here trying to write a blog post. xD
Speaking of the March for Life......
I have had the privilege to attend the M4L in Washington, DC these past 3 years. In previous years, I have attended the local one. Well why do we march? We march to defend life and to bring abortion to an end. Sadly, I wasn't able to stay this year and march with the rest of the people that came because of Snowstorm Jonas. But I was with everyone who stayed in spirit. We need to not just stand up for life at this time, once a year, but everyday. Pray, pray, pray!
I don't know where I was going with this but I knew it had been awhile since I have posted something.
